Way before my love affair with scented candles began, I loved the beeswax kind you could buy around Christmas.

The warm color they had, the beautiful light and of course the smell of honey once you burned them, everything made me feel cozy and relaxed.

Now that scented candles have taken over, I rarely buy one of them anymore, but I stumbled upon the scent in another product recently, way unexpected.

 

 

Ahuhu organic hair cares Amino Intensive Repair Shampoo, promising to deep repair damaged hair, has a beautiful golden color and smells like honey, which means I am in for relaxing showers.

But that shouldn’t be the only benefit from a shampoo, so let´s see if it does anything else.

What ahuhu claims:

A sulphate free shampoo for stressed, damaged or color-treated hair with keratin and amino acids. Invigorating deep repair.

Prize and size

One bottle contains 500 ml and retails for 22,75 € here. The bottle itself is plastic, comes with a convenient pump and is dark, probably to protect the antioxidants from light.

Texture and smell

The shampoo itself feels creamy, has a lovely golden color and smells, as mentioned above, like honey. The website claims notes of orange as well, but I didn´t really notice them.

 

 

Application and effects

Easily distributed despite the firmer texture, the shampoo doesn’t lather as much as a sulphate-containing product, but provides you with some lather after massaging it into the scalp. I found it easiest to apply it on the crown of my head, flip my hair over and massage it in from the bottom as well. That way I could coat everything evenly.

After rinsing, my hair felt clean, but had a slightly rough texture, something I know from using protein shampoos. The grittiness is due to the fact that it does not contain silicones and to the strengthening effect of the proteins and disappears once my hair is dry.

Does it live up to its claims?

Yes.

My hair is damaged and color-treated, and I feel like it provides my hair with protein to repair and strengthen the strands.

 

Will I rebuy?

No.

My hair needs moisture more than protein (click here to find out what your hair needs), so I will switch to the hydro series from this brand, but if protein is what you need, this one is a great choice.

 

Who do I recommend it to?

If your hair needs protein, this one is a great choice.

If you try to avoid sulphates like I do, the ahuhu line is a great option.

And if you love honey, the scent will win you over.
