I admit I am here for the play of words in the new Alpha-H Dawn to Dusk SPF 50+ Serum name. Even though it means I constantly say Dusk till Dawn when talking about it, but what can I say? I was 17 when that film was released, and boy was I impressed.
Tattooed George Clooney, Salma Hayek with the snake and obviously the amount of splatter that came afterwards… if you don’t know what I am talking about, you are probably quite young and shouldn’t google it – I guess by todays standards it is quite tame and you would be disappointed.
What about the sunscreen though, aiming to protect you from Dawn till Dusk?
What the Alpha-H Dawn to Dusk SPF 50+ Serum claims
Skincare meets suncare with this lightweight silky SPF sunscreen. UVA and UVB filters offer broad-spectrum sun protection while Niacinamide, Vitamin E and Aloe Vera leave skin looking smooth and luminous from Dawn to Dusk.
Facts about the Alpha-H Dawn to Dusk SPF 50+ Serum
Prize and size
One dropper bottle contains 50 ml and is available for 49,95 € on the website here. It is fragrance-free. (More info: Is fragrance in skincare really a problem?)
Texture and smell
The product itself is off-white, depending on the light even slightly yellowish and has a faint sunscreen scent. Not the coconut one from the 80s, but that typical sunscreen filter scent fragrance free sunscreens often have. It is light enough in texture to be easily picked up with the pipette.
How to use the Alpha-H Dawn to Dusk SPF 50+ Serum
While it works well with the pipette by texture, I am not the biggest fan of this packaging as I feel the pipette makes it easy to underdose. I measured it out, which I tend to do with any new sunscreen and needed around three full pipettes to cover my face and neck. Entirely possible, but I assume most people won’t go back in three times, so I fear it might lead to applying less than you should. (More info: How much sunscreen do you really need?)
That aside it is beautiful to wear, spreads with ease, very hydrating and doesn’t sting my eyes. My main issue with it is the finish – it is really dewy and stays really dewy, way too much for my personal preference, and it did pill on me a few times without me being able to figure out which part of my routine it didn’t agree with.
Ingredients of the Alpha-H Dawn to Dusk SPF 50+ Serum

Australia has a very high standard when it comes to sunscreen, and you can see that reflected in the choice of sunscreen filters. You will find Avobenzone, Homosalate and Octisalate from the older filters, which cover UVB and UVA protection, and then Tinosorb S, Ensulizone and Uvinul T150 from the more modern category that isn’t FDA approved, so not used in sunscreens from the US. (More info: The difference between chemical and physical sunscreen and How is UVA protection measured?)
While there are others like Mexoryl 400 that claim to cover parts of the UVA spectrum these filters don’t cover as good, it still is great broad spectrum protection.
For the skincare aspect you will find humectants like Glycerin and Sodium Hyaluronate, Niacinamide for its different skin benefits and Aloe Leaf Juice for soothing. (More info: The benefits of Hyaluronic Acid in skincare explained and The benefits of Niacinamide in skincare explained)

Does it live up to its claims?
Yes.
It is more luminous than I do prefer, but that is my taste.
How does it compare to…
Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun – Rice + Probiotics SPF 50+
One of my most repurchased sunscreens, and for good reason. It is equally as good in terms of filters, hydrating as well, but more affordable. And I prefer the finish, even though it is still a little dewy for me.

SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum SPF 50+
Another one that is more affordable, as hydrating and good in filters, only that this one has a more natural finish without much added dewiness.
La Roche Posay UVMune 400 SPF 50+
The new and improved version of my longstanding favorite outdoors and beach sunscreen. While this is on the pricey side and feels more like traditional sunscreen without being suffocating, it is also the only water resistant one in the lineup here, so what I reach for whenever I go to the beach. Added bonus is that it contains a filter that protects better against long UVA rays than all the others on the market, so is especially good when you are struggling with pigmentation.

Would I repurchase and which skin types do I recommend the Alpha-H Dawn to Dusk SPF 50+ Serum to?
While I really enjoyed the Alpha-H Dawn to Dusk SPF 50+ Serum, I will most likely not repurchase. The filters are great, it is hydrating and lovely in texture, but I had some occasions where it started to pill, the finish was a little dewy for my personal taste and I wasn’t the biggest fan of the pipette for packaging. If your skin is more on the dry side and you enjoy a little bit of glow, it might just be what you are looking for though.
