Doctor Anne’s Skincare Stash Update: What’s new in January? The Ordinary, e.l.f. and Minoxidil

I started the year slow in terms of new additions to my skincare stash – for several reasons, but mainly because with the reduced frequency I upload, it will take me even longer to actually publish the review of the products I tested (I currently have more than 30 that I finished testing, but haven’t gotten around to posting yet). With already a long list of products waiting, it is time to cut back both on my own purchases as well as on the PR I accept, which in turn makes for shorter New In posts.

Minoxidil, The Ordinary and elf makeup are new in for January

Not that a quick and easy read is a bad thing, I can imagine a short (and hopefully entertaining) scroll as break in between tasks filling your day might be very welcome. So without further ado, let’s talk about a (red obviously) tinted lip oil from e.l.f., two old favorites replaced from The Ordinary and, in preparation of a topic you requested, some Minoxidil for the hair.

New In from The Ordinary

I have been using The Ordinary products for a while now (I am still working on a post listing everything I have reviewed in one place) and while there are some duds, there are a few basics that I keep coming back to.

One of them is The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Serum (30 ml for 5,99 €, full review here) that I enjoy during the warmer months as the Niacinamide has an overall positive effect on my skin and the added Zinc helps regulate sebum production in my t-zone once the weather gets warmer. (More info: The benefits of Niacinamide in your skincare explained)

Another one is The Ordinary Hyaluronic 2% + B5 Serum (30 ml for 8,99 €, full review here) that was recently reformulated. I don’t use many serums that are purely hydrating, but during winter and spring my skin often craves an extra layer, and for that this formula with added Panthenol and Ceramides is great when your skin is a little upset as well as dehydrated. New In from e.l.f.

I have reviewed e.l.f. skincare previously, but never their makeup. Mainly because I don’t like ordering makeup online, unlike skincare where I can judge pretty well what will work for me and what won’t. My local Rossmann has started stocking e.l.f. makeup though, and when I noticed I picked up one of their tinted lip oils, the e.l.f. cosmetics Glow Reviver Lip Oil (7,6 ml for 7,20 €).  Obviously in the color Rose Envy, the red. There are ten different colors, but as even the deep red is very, very sheer, I don’t think the difference on the lips would be enough to warrant having all of them.

It has a slight minty flavor upon application, but so far no obvious tingle or plumping – I will keep you updated.

Doppelherz Pharma Minoxidil

New in from Doppelherz

I asked you over on the YouTube Community page if there were any topics you’d be interested in for me to cover and got quite a few requests to cover Minoxidil as therapy for hair loss. (More info: The different reasons for hair loss explained)

As my hair is thinning (most likely due to age) and I prefer to talk about things I have experienced first hand whenever possible, I got myself a 3 months supply of Minoxidil 5% (yes, that is the mens version) by the brand Doppelherz. Doppelherz is a German brand (it translates to Double Heart) and their offer was a fraction of the price of Regaine, probably the brand best known for its Minoxidil products: Minoxidil Doppelherz Pharma 50 mg/ml (3x 60 ml for 27,99 €) compared to Regaine 50 mg/ ml (3x 60 ml for 56,99 €).

I have tried Regaine in the past and so far can tell you that my main issue with it, the texture it adds to my hair when applied to the scalp, is the same in the Doppelherz version. This time I am determined to get over that though and already have around a month under my belt of consistent use both morning and night.

It will take three months to see results, which is why it will take a while before I can report back.
