I was contemplating calling todays post “More, more, more – skincare devices I added to my collection in July”, but you know how much I like sticking to similar titles for recurring posts. Skincare stash Update stayed, even though I just have one skincare item to show you, and that one, the sundance HydroBoost Sun Protection Serum SPF 50+, is very niche. It is from the affordable home brand of a German drugstore, meaning international access will be limited. The two devices I got sent are hopefully of more interest to you. I got the SKINVITY Silicone LED Mask that comes in combination with a LED bib and the DermRays V8S Diode Laser Hair Removal Device.
While SKINVITY comes with a serum to go with the mask, which technically counts as second skincare item for the month, the rest are nail care, the ebelin nail polish remover without aceton, and makeup, the L’Oréal Perfect Match Nude Serum Foundation. One just as niche as the sunscreen, one already reviewed on here, so not exactly new.
SKINVITY Silicone LED Mask
This one is the fourth mask to add to my collection, and no, obviously you don’t need more than one. I have talked about what to look for when deciding which mask to purchase here, and which one from the many that meet these requirements you end up getting is personal preference and different details: some cover the mouth, others offer pulsed light options or have an additional strap over the head for comfort. What makes the SKINVITY Silicone LED Mask (1 Mask with bib and collar for 499 €, full review coming soon) different? It comes as a two part set, one mask for the face and then a collar and bib to simultaneously treat neck and decollete. And while I already had a collar, I was still missing a bib in my collection!
The SKINVITY Serum (30 ml for 54 €, full review coming soon) contains Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin C and Proteoglycans, so should help in brightening the skin.
I haven’t looked at the specifics in terms of wavelengths yet, but it offers red, infrared and blue light. At the moment I am still testing the one from The Light Salon, mask and collar, but once I have made up my mind about that one, I will switch to the offer from SKINVITY to give you my review.
DermRays V8S Diode Laser Hair Removal Device
The promise of hair growth reduction so you don’t have to go through the hair removal process as often is one that fascinated me for years. I purchased the Philips Lumea Prestige IPL at home laser hair removal treatment device in 2017 and reviewed it here, and while I wasn’t completely sold on the results, it was one of my most popular videos for a long time. I wish I could say that was because it was such a great review (of course it is!), but a closer look at YouTube analytics revealed most traffic came from a playlist with the title “Women showing their hairy armpits online”, which I assume isn’t for those interested in skincare and beauty primarily. The internet is surely a weird place!
To see if I would get better results with another device, I agreed to testing the DermRays V8S Diode Laser Hair Removal Device (One device with complimentary razor for 562, 95 €, full review coming soon). It doesn’t work with IPL, which is Intensed Pulsed Light, but with a laser – similar mechanism, but with IPL the light is diffuse and with laser it is more focused, so has a stronger effect. At least in theory, I will start testing it on my arm pits for 8-12 weeks, which is when a reduction in hair growth should be visible according to the brand.
L’Oréal Perfect Match Nude Plumping Tinted Serum
I have talked about the L’Oréal Perfect Match Nude Plumping Tinted Serum with 1% Hyaluronic Acid (30 ml for 12 €, full review here) on the blog before, and true to what I said in my review, I repurchased after running out. It is such an easy product to put on for a work day that doesn’t require me to be completely made up, evening out my skin without being heavy and without me having to think about it during the day. Yes, there are still others I want to try, like the famous it cosmetics CC Cream, but until I find something else that convinces me and is as easy and convenient to pick up, this will feature on here frequently.
Although, having just finished one bottle, I have to repeat how much I dislike the packaging. It gest messy within days and to get the last ml of foundation, you need to pour them out as the dropper won’t reach the bottom.
sundance Hydro+ Sun Protection Serum SPF 50+
sundance is the sun care line of DM, a German drugstore I frequent quite a bit, and caught my eye because it tells you the UVA protection it provides on the label. There are different variations available, I went with the sundance Hydro+ Sun Protection Serum SPF 50+ (30 ml for 5,95 €, full review coming soon), but after a quick skin through the ingredient list all formulas are mainly the same, no matter if they are called Hydro+ or Protect+.
I have already tried that one, and while it isn’t the most elegant texture, there is some slightly oily feeling on the skin when you apply enough of it, I appreciate the UPF of 28 and the low price – even though it only has 30 ml as opposed to 50 ml, which is more common in sun creams, making it less affordable than it seems at first glance.
Should you have access to a DM though, see if the texture works for you, it really isn’t a bad product.
ebelin nail polish remover without aceton
I have shared earlier this year that I struggled with my nails breaking and splitting, and while it definitely has improved, it still isn’t back to where it used to be. To make sure I treat my nails as gentle as possible, I switched to a nail polish remover without Aceton, the ebelin nail polish remover without Aceton (125 ml for 0,85 €, full review coming soon). There are two versions available, one is rose scented and one allegedly smells of apricots. I have no preferences there, I just appreciate the low price point.
Aceton can be drying on the nail bed and thus weaken the nails structure over time. Not everyone will struggle with that, and using one with Acetone has benefits in that it is much more efficient in removing colored polishes, but for me it is one variable I wanted to change in order to improve my nail health.
As always, tell me in the comments what you are most interested in seeing reviewed first.
