When writing this review, I had a sudden insight. One that proves (once again) that the ones we lie to the most are we ourselves. One that has as much impact as the sudden thought: “I am older now than my mother was when she had me!”

Startled much? Don´t worry, it wears off. I am ten years older than my mother was when she gave birth to me.

 

 

You see, when I review a product, I have a checklist. It contains of course ingredients, texture, price and all that, but for me “convenience for traveling” has always been a huge point.

And while I was ticking off boxes (mentally, I tend to do these things on my bike or in the shower) regarding the Doctor Duve Glowskin Daily Resurfacing Pads (*PR-Sample), it occurred to me that *drumroll*: I don´t really travel anymore.

At least not in the flexible, backpacking way I used to.

And that for that reason it really doesn´t matter if a product comes in presoaked pads or in a glass bottle.

Because, let´s face it, it spends the majority of its time sitting in my bathroom drawer anyway.

So, packaging aside, how did I like the Doctor Duve Glowskin Daily Resurfacing Pads (*PR-Sample)?

 

What Doctor Duve Medical skincare claims:

Just five seconds a day for fine, clean and velvety soft skin! The unique Peeling Pads are soaked with a special lotion. The lactic acid (AHA) that it contains removes dead skin flakes, clears, peels and smoothes the complexion. Salicylic acid minimizes and refines the pores, Lycoskin protects against free radicals and prevents premature aging. Vitamin B3 brightens the skin and reduces pigmentation and age spots.

Prize and size

One pot contains 60 pads and retails for 69 € on the website here. This is a little more than 1 € per pad. Sounds expensive, but as far as pads with lactic acid go, I only know of the Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Peel Extra strength ones (158 € for 60 here) and the Zelens PHA+ Bio Peel Resurfacing Facial Pads (65 £ here), which are quite expensive as well.

 

Texture and smell

The pads are presoaked and neither very wet nor very dry. I tend to store all of these packages upside down, that way the pad that I am about to take out is always soaked in liquid. Despite the fact that these contain fragrance I cannot smell anything.

 

Application and effects

You swipe them over your face, nothing special I can report here. On my acid experienced skin there is no burn or tightness with daily use. I feel like my skin is less prone to breakouts or clogged pores when using these.

• Butylene Glycol: Humectant, helps skin lock in moisture
• Glycolic Acid: AHA, chemical exfoliant
• Lactic Acid: AHA, chemical exfoliant
• Niacinamide: Vitamin B3, fights free radicals, combats hyper pigmentation
• Salicylic Acid: BHA, chemical exfoliant (less than 1%)
• Glycerin: Humectant, draws moisture to the skin
• Solanum Lycopersicum Leaf Cell Culture Extract: antioxidant

Filler ingredients

• Sodium Hydroxide: pH adjuster, can be irritating
• Phenoxyethanol: Preservative (1% mark)
• Ethylhexylglycerin: Preservative
• Hydroxyethylcellulose: Lubricant, thickening
• Ppg-26-buteth-26: Emulsifying, reduces appearance of flaking
• PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil: Emulsifying, should not be used on broken skin

Unfavorable Ingredients

Does it live up to its claims?

Yes.

It is a chemical exfoliant that carters to the needs of mature and congested skin by the mix of acids used, it contains Niacinamide to combat hyper pigmentation and leaves the skin soft, but not angry.

 

Would I repurchase?

I am on the fence.

I like the product a lot, no denying that, and these are by far my favorite pads to use. But I feel like I can get similar ingredients as a toner for less money. And as someone that doesn´t travel a lot, do I really need pads?

 

Who do I recommend it to?

Frequent travelers.

People that want a blend of acids that includes more than the usual Glycolic.

Mature and congested skin types.
