EVE LOM Cleanser – Mediation

Have you ever heard about mediation? No, I am not missing a t in the word. Mediation means you work with two different sides, usually people in a conflict and try to get them to common ground. Take a divorce with kids involved for example. Mediation will help the conflicting parties, the parents in this case, work out their issues with a professional to actually achieve a fair and manageable separation.

But because the topic of divorced parents isn´t a pleasant one, let´s move on to another example. Skincare.

I mean, you knew you could trust me to come back to that topic eventually, couldn´t you?

In skincare sometimes different people take different sides, often with very strong opinions. So today I will do my very best to mediate between Eve Lom on one side, claiming their EVE LOM Cleanser is “remarkable, multi-purpose, the original balm cleanser” and beauty bloggers calling it “glorified mineral oil”.

Will we be able to get on common ground?

What Eve Lom claims

Remarkable. Multi-purpose. Multi-award-winning.The original balm Cleanser.
The EVE LOM Cleanser changed the face of cleansing and continues too, being expertly balanced for all skin types, skin concerns and environmental conditions. With its signature blend of four aromatic plant oils, the result is incredibly glowing, radiant skin with a smoother, more refined texture.

Facts

Prize and size

One pot contains 50 ml and retails for 60 € on the website here. You can get 100 ml or even 200 ml as well, each bigger size a little less expensive when you break it down to € per ml. My 50 ml  lasted almost three months.

Texture and smell

The balm is one of the more oily ones, which makes it very pleasant to spread on the face. The scent however, from the plant oils I assume, is not to my liking. It is quite strong and herbal and for me takes away from the usually pleasant experience balm cleansers are.

Application and effects

A balm in the pot and an oil on your face, the cleanser is easy to spread, cleanses my face from makeup (yes, even waterproof ) and is not drying in the slightest. It is impossible to rinse with water only, you will need a face cloth of some sort, and even with that I felt like I needed some extra effort to remove every trace. But that could all have been in my head, because, you know, mineral oil.

Favorable ingredients
  • Paraffinum Liquidum (Mineral Oil): Emollient (forms a layer on the skin that seals in moisture)
  • PEG-30 Lanolin: Emollient
  • Cetearyl Alcohol: Emollient, emulsifier
  • Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate 2: Humectant (binds water in the skin)
  • Theobroma Cacao Seed Butter: Hydrating, anti-oxidant
  • PEG-75 Lanolin: Emollient
  • Eugenia Caryophyluss Leaf Oil: Essential Oil, antiseptic
  • Humulus Lupulus (Hops) Oil: Anti-inflammatory
  • Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Oil: Soothing
  • Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil: Moisturizing

Filler ingredients

A few words on the mineral oil. It is not the devil. It will not break you out when removed properly. It has its benefits as the layer it creates really holds moisture in. But I personally don´t like it in my cleanser. I don´t want my cleanser to form a layer on my skin. I want the things that come afterwards to penetrate and do their magic!

Does it live up to its claims?

Hm.

The EVE LOM Cleanser was one of the first balm cleansers and thus changed the face of cleansing. It does contain four aromatic plant oils. And it removes my makeup with ease.

But as a product that contains quite a few emollients that have no other benefit than forming a protective layer on your skin, I would disagree with it being expertly balanced for all skin types, concerns and environmental conditions.

Would I repurchase?

No.

I don´t think the ingredients justify the price. And I really don´t like the scent.

Who do I recommend it to?

If you are into herbal, earthy smells, the scent might attract you.

If you want a hyped beauty product in your routine, that one is a cult classic.

But in terms of mediation, I have to admit defeat. I can´t get on common ground here, I am strongly taking sides. The “glorified mineral oil” side. For 60 € I much rather buy two pots of Cliniques Take The Day Off (Review here).
