I actually wanted to try Huda Beauty a while ago, when they released their Faux Filter Foundation (that still sits on my list of things to try). But when I went to get color matched, the Sephora sales person in Berlin was that rude and unhelpful I decided not to spend any money there and just leave the store.
That put me off the brand a little, but when I received the Huda Beauty Mauve Obsessions Palette as a GWP, I figured it was a sign to let go of that grudge and get testing.
To keep things short and sweet I filmed a review and tutorial for one look, but added pictures of two other makeup looks at the end, along with where I used which shade – Do let me know if you prefer it this way or want step by step tutorials on all looks next time.
One palette contains 9 pans at 1,1 g of eyeshadow each and retails for 25 £ on Cult Beauty here or for 29,99 € on Sephora here.
Huda Beauty claims that the colors are intensely pigmented, soft and easy to blend.
Described as a mix of warm pinks, plums and burgundy colors, the palette is definitely reddish pink and warm. It contains three shimmers and six matte colors.
While the colors look very dark in the pan, they don’t swatch well, being way less opaque when applied and leaning very pink on the eye.
While the shadows apply much better than they swatch, I´d still have to disagree with the “intensely pigmented” claim. Especially the mattes need quite some building up and the chunky texture of the shimmers makes them work better on top of another eyeshadow than on their own. The shimmers can be improved by using them either wet or really pressing them onto the eyelid with your fingers
All shades do have quite a bit of fallout and profit from an eyeshadow base for vibrancy.
Personally I find the mattes to be a little stiff, but as all of them blend well, I don’t think it is a huge issue.
Both with or without a primer I get a full ten hours wear time out of the colors, with no glitter migration happening after I removed the initial fallout.
If you can get on board with the fallout and the sheerer pigmentation, the eyeshadow quality and performance is good.
The colors don’t suit me too well, which is not the palettes fault, but I was still able to create a variety of looks both office or date night appropriate without the need to reach for supplementary shadows.
As the price is reasonable for the amount of eyeshadow you get, I´d recommend this palette to anyone into the color selection. I myself will not reach for it enough to justify keeping it in my stash.
