Longwearing, comfortable, buildable coverage and a natural matte finish? The Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation sounds like it was made specifically for me.
Which it obviously isn’t, it is just made for people like me:
Old enough to have a job that requires their foundation to stay on for the full day, old enough to have skin that shows pigmentation and lines that shouldn’t be emphasized and, most importantly, old enough to not be willing to put up with feeling suffocated in the name of vanity. I certainly don’t have the patience to be uncomfortable to look good anymore.
But does it deliver? Here is how it worked on my mature, combination skin.
What the Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation claims
A renovated formula suitable for all skin types, tones and ages. From dry, sensitive, and acne prone skin. Seamlessly covers imperfections with buildable full coverage in a natural matte finish.
With advanced Airwear technology for an ultra thin, ultra breathable formula that is comfortable all day long. Concentrated with 81% skincare serum including Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin E and Moringa. 9/10 women said skin felt moisturised and comfortable when wearing*. With a smooth and easily blendable texture, that leaves the skin perfectly smooth, just a flawless natural matte finish and reduces shine.
Facts about the Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation
One bottle made from frosted glass contains 30 ml and is available for 31,99 € on the website here.
They claim 45 shades on the website, but I counted 49 in the list, out of which 8 weren’t currently available – if they are just sold out or will be faded out I don’t know. I am wearing the shade 110 C and it sits perfectly on my skin.
Coverage and staying power
Back when I was young wearing a full coverage foundation basically meant you would erase every bit of color and life from your face and were left with somethig that looked similar to a flat canvas in evenness. Thankfully that isn’t the case any longer.
One thin layer of the Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation evens out the skin and looks as if I am barely wearing anything – my face, but better basically. Two thin layers are enough to cover redness and pigmentation – as you can see here I have some redness on and around the nose, pigmentation on the temples and on my cheeks – traces of the acne that accompanied me most of my life. After applying the second layer – I tend to start around the center of my face and sheer it out to the sides to blend it easier into my neck that usually stays foundation free – most of the pigmentation and all of the redness is gone. I can get it to full coverage with applying a third layer on top, but rarely do that – in the rare occasions I did it layered very well and was still comfortable to wear throughout the day.
In terms of finish it really looks like skin, and contrary to the claims I don’t find it to take shine down by a lot. Yes, there is a little less shine than I had on my bare skin, but I wouldn’t call it mattifying either. Usually I powder my t-zone, but didn’t for the sake of this review – I wanted to show you how it behaves without primer or powder.
This is how it looks after I have done the rest of my makeup and my hair, so probably 30 minutes after application. It has blended into the skin even better, brush strokes that were visible on the left side of my face – I only saw that when watching the video footage back, these 4K cameras really are unforgiving! – are gone and it looks very natural indeed while giving me the coverage I want.
4 hours in you can see that it has rubbed off a little bit on my chin – not much, but I feel like the redness is showing a little more than it did before here – which happens all the time for me. I have the habit of resting my chin in my hands whenever I work at my desk – The Thinker from Rodin – and no foundation withstands 4 hours of that. Other than that you can see a little bit of break up next to my nose that I actually can’t explain, as I never experienced that “in real life”. It might be that the application on camera was to blame for that, I can’t really tell. The shine is back to how it was before application, but other than that I am very happy with how it looks.
Ten hours later for my final checkin you can see that especially around the perimeters of my face and around the nose it has worn off noticeably – a little more than it would have with powder and setting spray, but even with these two I would see it start to fade around the ten hour mark. As it still hasn’t settled into my lines or pores and my face still looks more even than it did before, I am more than happy with the results.
I mean, if I had to attend an important event, I would probably touch up or redo my whole face as my eye makeup looks a little lived in as well, but for doing the groceries and going home to the family I wouldn’t feel the need.
How to best apply the Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation
While for the pictures here I used a brush for application, I usually use my fingers and then do a quick dabbing with the Real Techniques Miracle 2-in-1 Powder Puff to press it into the skin. This is one of the foundations though that work well with everything I have tried, so whatever you go-to method is will work.
My tip would be to apply in layers so you get the desired coverage and don’t end up wasting product – it builds quickly and I usually need less than anticipated. If you use a damp beauty blender, the coverage will stay a little sheerer and you’ll have more glow, typical for that method of application.
While I don’t wear primer on a daily basis, I do set it with powder around my t-zone to take the glow down a little more and to increase longevity even more.
Would I repurchase and which skin types do I recommend the Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation to?
The Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation is my perfect foundation in every aspect: It feels like nothing on the skin, is easily buildable to full coverage, but never makes the face look flat or lifeless and stays put the whole day even without relying on a primer or setting spray. Could it take the shine down a little more? Yes, but I forgive that minor flaw as it never settles into my lines and pores, something most mattifying foundations do and is hydrating enough to not cling to dry patches, but not that hydrating that it would slide off in the heat of summer.
If your skin is very oily, you might want to try something more mattifying, but for everyone else it should work very well.
