After a month were I had only makeup to show you it is only skincare this time. And a lot of it! New launches seem to come in waves, and in May exciting new releases from The Ordinary, Geek and Gorgeous and Alpha-H appeared at my doorstep. But that wasn’t everything, no. Alongside those brands that have been shown on here several times already, a few others were introduced to me that I didn’t know yet or that I had only recently become familiar with.
There is innbeauty Project (so far I only knew their sunscreen that I reviewed here), Maysama skincare (I have been testing their LED mask for several weeks now and just finished writing up my review) and then, completely new to me, Coco & Eve with a focus on self tan and body care and Dermelect, calling themselves the home of effective, innovative and luxurious skin- and nail care products. Sadly also clean beauty products, with the free from additions that still seem to be popular.
Which of the brads are you already familiar with and would want to see reviewed first?
New in From The Ordinary
I received The Ordinary Saccharomyces Ferment 30% Milky Toner (100 ml for 16,80 €, full review here) back when it wasn’t released yet and I wasn’t allowed to talk about it (side note: That feels incredibly exciting, a secret you know that others not quite know about yet!) and have been testing it ever since it arrived. It claims to gently exfoliate through the ingredients that develop when the Saccharomyces is fermented (More info: The benefits of fermented ingredients in skincare explained) and has a really lightweight texture and a distinct, fermented scent that you will probably either love or hate – I quite enjoy it.
New in from Geek and Gorgeous
Geek and Gorgeous never fail to send over some of the products I already know and enjoy, so both the Geek and Gorgeous Jelly Joker (150 ml for 9,50 €, full review here) and the Geek and Gorgeous C-Glow Serum (30 ml for 12,50 €, full review here) have been discussed on this blog several times already. Their new release, the Geek and Gorgeous Power Peptides (30 ml for 15,80 €, full review here), claims to contain 4 different types of peptides to help the skin age better. I received it right at the beginning of May and have been using it right from the start and so far I can say I really enjoy it.
New in from Alpha-H
Alpha-H are something of an authority when it comes to acids ever since launching their Alpha-H Liquid Gold Exfoliant (find my review from 2014 here – that is how long I have been using this brand!), so it shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that their first hair care product is exactly that, a scalp exfoliant. The Alpha-H Healthy Scalp Exfoliating Treatment (100 ml for 26,95 €, full review here) plays into a trend we have been seeing for a few years now, taking into consideration that the scalp is just skin and needs to be looked after if healthy and strong hair is supposed to grow out of it. I haven’t used it too often yet and don’t really struggle with my scalp health, but so far I enjoyed it and like the scent a lot.
New in from Coco and Eve
I admit that I hadn’t really heard of the brand Coco and Eve before they contacted me, mainly because I tend to buy drugstore self tan and they aren’t available in German drugstores. At least not as far as I know, I haven’t double checked.
They do offer a wide selection of hair as well as tanning products on their website, tan for the body and the face, as well as the tools you need to achieve an even and streak free glow. I opted for the Coco & Eve Sunny Honey Bali Bronzing Foam in Dark (200 ml for 34 €, full review coming soon) along with the Coco & Eve Soft Velvet Tanning Mitt (1 mitt for 15 €). Dark not because I have a deeper skin tone, I surely don’t, but because I mainly self tan my legs and feel like when I use medium, at least in other brands, they barely take on any color.
For my face I got the Coco & Eve Antioxidant Face Tanning Micromist (75 ml for 29 €, full review coming soon) because I like the idea to simply spray something on to look less pale. Now that I have it, I wonder how I can avoid staining my hair in the process though. Any tips?
New in from innbeauty Project
Sticking with the bronzed self-tan theme I also got some body care from innbeauty project. The first one is the innbeauty Project Body Bright & Smooth 7% AHA + BHA Body Serum (150 ml for 33 $, full review coming soon) that will help prepare the skin for self tan application and then the innbeauty project Bronze Body Glow Body Oil with the accompanying Body Brush (80 ml for 44 $, brush included, full review coming soon). This oil doesn’t contain self tan, but is supposed to leave the skin with a beautiful, golden bronzed glow that blurs imperfections while simultaneously hydrating the skin with Squalane and offering antioxidants with Guarana and Green Coffee, just like the stuff they cover bikini models in before a shoot.
Not part of their body care offers, but fitting into the summer bronze vibe is the innbeauty Project Pina Colada Glaze Lip Oil (6 ml for 18 $, full review coming soon). It smells heavily like Pina Colada and reminds me both in color as well as in texture of the lip glosses back in the days when I still used them regularly: glittery, tacky and sweet. But in a very good way.
Moving away from glitter and body, I also got some new things from their targeted skincare products. The innbeauty Retinol Remix 1% Retinol Treatment (30 ml for 48 $, full review here), the innbeauty Project Pore Refine Pore + Texture Serum (30 ml for 38 $, full review here) and the innbeauty Project Acne Serum (30 ml for 35 $, full review coming soon), called a medicated treatment and featuring 1.5% Salicylic Acid, Niacinamide and Tranexamic Acid to tackle both congestion as well as leftover hyperpigmentation. Neither of them is really affordable, but if they are as well formulated as their sunscreen is, they might just be worth the price.
New in from Dermelect
Is it superficial to say that the bright red packaging of the Dermelect product line was one of the things that made me want to try it? Probably, but what can I say, I simply love red in everything. It wasn’t the only thing though, I was also intrigued by the claim to deliver innovative, effective and luxurious products, and I think I got quite a good selection to see if these are claims I would agree with.
Out of their quite large selection of products I picked the Dermelect Outcrease Retinol Trifecta Serum (30 ml for 42 $, full review coming soon) that claims three active forms of slow-release retinol. As one of the three is Retinyl Palmitate I am already a little less excited though, given that I don’t really believe you will see much benefit from using that one in your routine – I hope the other two have an adequate concentration to make up for that. (More info: The different types of Retinoids explained)
The next one is the Dermelect Self Esteem Beauty Sleep Serum (30 ml for 45 $, full review coming soon) using Glycolic, Salicylic and Lactic Acid for overnight exfoliation and then a few more soothing products to make up for the actives I got: The Dermelect Rapid Repair Barrier Balancing Serum (30 ml for 45 $, full review coming soon) with ceramides, Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid as well as the Dermelect Savior Skin All-In-One Repair Balm (60 ml for 42 $, full review coming soon) that is supposed to be used everywhere your skin git upset, so on sun burns, after procedures, on chafing tights, after shaving, on lips or scratches,… basically wherever you got any kind of irritation. A true multitasker apparently. The Dermelect Redness Rehab Sensitive Skin Soothing Cream (50 ml for 42 $, full review coming soon) on the other hand is solely for the face and claims to help with dryness, discomfort and redness. Probably more of a winter product for me, but I will report back.
The last one I picked is for the eye area, the Dermelect Revitalite Professional Eyelid & Dark Circle Corrector Professional Strength (15 ml for 59 $, full review coming soon). What immediately intrigued me was the claim not only to target puffiness and dark circles, but also droopy eyelids – I am curious how it is going to do that.
New in from Maysama
Now Maysama as brand is not completely new to me as I received their Maysama Prana LED Light Therapy Mask back in March and just finished writing my review (you can find the review here). They claim that the use of Green Rooibos skincare helps increase the effectiveness of the LED Light Therapy and sent me their serum to try alongside the mask. Now I received two more products from their skincare line, the Maysama Green Rooibos AOX Hydrating Atomiser (120 ml for 65,95 $, full review coming soon) and the Maysama Green Rooibos Probiotic Moisturizer (50 ml for 52,50 $, full review coming soon).
So far I have only opened the AOX Hydrating Atomiser because I love having a facial mist at my desk to mist my face during the day and just like the corresponding serum it has a very distinct Rooibos scent that you either love or hate. Now Rooibos is one of the types of tea I don’t enjoy, I prefer to stick to green, black or white, but I like the scent, so I have been enjoying that one so far.
