Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel – Little Mermaid

I love „The little mermaid“ by Hans Christian Andersen. My parents had to read it to me countless times, even though I´d always end up in tears.

Mind you, although it is what inspired Disneys „Arielle“, the original story only bares slight resemblance to that movie. It is much darker, full of death and blood and loss.

Ah, you´ve got to love the old stories, told to prepare children for the cruel and dangerous world they were facing!

The little mermaid never gains the love of the prince, nor does she get an immortal soul or a functional human body. Though trying, mute and in constant pain, to win his love, the prince marries another woman. When offered the opportunity to kill him (and his bride) to at least regain her mermaid self, she decides to die instead, turning into sea foam and becoming a daughter of the air.

Wouldn´t count as a happy end, don´t you think? Seeing the story as a transformation, innocence first, then the catastrophy and in the end your changed self, formed by what you experienced, is what made me think of it right now.

Why? Because the Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel goes through three different stages as well. Without the loss, pain and blood though, promised!

What Oskia claims

The cult and original gel-to-oil cleanser. Melts beautifully into skin to quickly and gently remove impurities and makeup while actively illuminating and nourishing to reveal balanced, clean, fresh, radiant skin that feels soft and smooth. Wonderfully rich in vitamins and enzymes.

Facts

Prize and size

One bottle of the Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel (opaque, comes with a pump) contains 100 ml and retails for 39, 45 € on Look Fantastic or 39,99 € on Douglas here.

As one pump is enough for your face and neck, 100 ml should last you a long time.

Texture and smell

The orange tinted gel smells fruity and develops an oily texture when massaged into the skin. Once you add water, it emulsifies into a milk that washes off without residue.

Application and effects

Although it works well at removing makeup, I only used it once for that purpose (taking my testing responsibilities very serious here) and saved it for a second cleanse/ only cleanse in the morning. While I can´t tell you that my skin looks actively illuminated, it does feel nourished and clean afterwards, never stripped or like there is residue. I like to leave the cleanser on for a little, to really get the most out of the vitamins and enzymes as well as the MSM. It is not one you should immediately rinse from your face.

Ingredients

Favorable ingredients
  • Caprylic/ Capric Triglyceride: Occlusive
  • Glycerin: Humectant
  • Sucrose Laurate: Gentle surfactant
  • Dimethylsulfone (MSM): Oskias signature ingredient, organic sulfur, building block in collagen and keratin syntheses when taken orally, enhances penetration of other ingredients
  • Lactobacillus/Cucurbita Pepo Fruit Ferment Extract: Antioxidants and pumpkin enzymes that act as gentle exfoliants
  • Borago officinalis (Borage) Seed Oil: Antiinflammatory, rich in gamma linoleic acid
  • Sucrose Stearate: Emollient
  • Retinyl Palmitate: Weakest form of retinoid, bound to a fatty acid. Less irritant, but almost last on the ingredients, so probably with very little effect
  • Jojoba Esters: Emollient
  • Vitamin E (Tocopherol): Antioxidant, reduces hyperpigmentation and improves skins elasticity
  • Ascorbyl palmitate: Vitamin C ester, more stable
Other ingredients
  • Cetearyl Olivate: Emulsifier

  • Sorbitan Olivate: Emulsifier

A very gentle cleanser with a posh texture that contains pumpkin enzymes for gentle exfoliation and MSM as „special ingredient“. While there is no hard proof that topically applied MSM does help with collagen production, I don´t think there is harm in trying.

Does it live up to its claims?

Yes.

It conatins enzymes and vitamins and reveals soft, nourished and smooth skin.

Would I repurchase?

Probably.

Compared to other cleansers it is not the most expensive one I have tried (not exactly a bargain either), it is a joy to use and a gentle way for exfoliating when my skin is a little more on the sensitive side. If this one is my summer fling, Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel is my winter comfort.

Who do I recommend it to?

I think it is suited perfectly to those with slight texture issues and sensitive skin as well as mature faces that want a little extra in terms of collagen stimulation.
