It took me a while to understand why the name PURITO B5 Panthenol Re-Barrier Cream rubbed me the wrong way.

It isn’t obvious at first glance, but once you know, you can‘t unsee it. Or at least I can‘t.

B5 is Panthenol, just in another form of writing, meaning the name of the product is Purito Panthenol Panthenol Re-Barrier Cream – certainly not wrong, but still unnecessary.

Strange name aside, how did the cream work for me?

What the PURITO B5 Panthenol Re-Barrier Cream claims

Rich moisturizing cream formulated with 10% Panthenol helps protect and strengthen the skin barrier. Panthenol provides instant hydration, attracts and holds moisture to retain it within the skin layers.

Combined with skin-friendly ingredients such as Niacinamide, Squalane, and Centella Asiatica Extract, this cream offers exceptional performance in softening the skin, leaving it smooth, and providing continuous improvements to skin’s health.

Facts about the PURITO B5 Panthenol Re-barrier Cream

Prize and size

One tube contains 100 ml and is available for 24,95 € on the website here. The version I show in the pictures is part of a travel set and has recently been re-released with different packaging.  It is vegan.

Texture and smell

It is described as rich and moisturizing, but looks like a gel-cream hybrid in a slightly translucent white. While it has no scent as in fragrance, you can sniff something earthy and not necessarily pleasant when you get it very close to your nose. It is faint enough to not be bothersome when applied though.

Despite the name it looks more like a gel than a cream.

How to use the PURITO B5 Panthenol Re-barrier Cream

When you spread it on your skin it sinks in quickly, but leaves some tackiness behind that stays noticeable for a while, one of the reasons why I didn’t enjoy it much in the mornings.

Like I find to be true for many Panthenol containing products, it gives kind of a protective layer to the skin, making it again more suitable for night time use for those of us with normal to oily skin. While that wasn’t always an issue, I would sometimes notice pilling when used in the mornings under makeup.

I found it very good at locking in hydration and making the skin feel calm, but really didn‘t get along with the texture if the temperature was high.

Ingredients of the PURITO B5 Panthenol Re-barrier Cream

Hover the mouse over an ingredient for short explanation. Read more on INCIDecoder.

What surprised me was the concentration of Panthenol used, which is at 10% and higher than the 5% you usually find in skincare. It explains the barrier-like feeling I get when I use it. (More info: The benefits of Panthenol in skincare explained)

In addition you have Niacinamide and Centella Asiatica, both as Extract as well as in its active components Madecassoside, Asiaticoside, Asiatic Acid and Madecassic Acid. (More info: The benefits of Niacinamide in skincare explained and The benefits of Centella Asiatica in skincare explained)

Quite unexpected was the addition of Copper Tripeptide-1 that is supposed to initiate the healing process by stimulating production of collagen. (More info: The benefits of Peptides in skincare explained)

Does it live up to its claims?

Yes.

I mean, I can‘t comment on the continuous improvement of skin health, that would probably depend on how much healing is needed, but it is a rich and hydrating moisturizer with barrier repair ingredients added.

How does it compare to…

La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5+ Repairing Cream

First of all, this one has 5% Panthenol opposed to the 10%. Now in skincare more isn‘t more and 5% seem to be enough, so don‘t take it as sign that one is superior to the other. La Roche Posay looks and feels more like an ointment when it comes out of the tube, but both spread similarly well and while it is still nothing I would enjoy during a hot summers day, La Roche Posay feels slightly more pleasant on my skin. It also smells better, but lacks the Copper Peptide.

Would I repurchase and which skin types do I recommend it to?

For me this is one for the winter months, when its protective properties are most welcome. While my skin can be irritated in summer too, the texture just isn’t something I would want in the heat. Depending on the time of day you use it, it will work well on all skin types but probably best for dry and irritated skin.
