I do love a lightweight gel cream come summer, so I was convinced the PURITO Breeze Water Gel Cream and I would get along perfectly fine. Especially when you caught a little more sun than you wanted to (it happens to the best of us!) and want to cool the affected area, a gel kept in the fridge beforehand can work wonders in soothing the skin. (More info: The best way to deal with a sun burn)

Well, turns out I was wrong. Not about the cooling, no. There is a cooling sensation even if you didn’t keep the product in the fridge (More info: Are skincare fridges really necessary?)
But there was another major turnoff for me that I just couldn’t get past…
What the PURITO Breeze Water Gel Cream claims
This lightweight gel cream moisturizer formulated with Eucoolan(K) and Glyceryl Glucoside delivers cooling benefits and hydration to overheated skin caused by sun exposure and external aggressors. Enriched with soothing synergy ingredients such as Aloe Vera, Allantoin, and Chamomile that assist in calming down flushed sensitive skin, this cream is an essential item on scorching hot days.
Facts about the PURITO Breeze Water Gel Cream
Prize and size
One tube contains 80 ml and is available for 19,50 $ on the website here. It is vegan.
Texture and smell
Just like the name would suggest it is a gel formula with a slightly yellow tinted off-white colour. What I really couldn’t get behind though is the scent. The products contains no fragrance (if you don’t count the plant extracts), so it is most likely the ingredients own scent, but it is quite strong and very plasticky.

How to use the PURITO Breeze Water Gel Cream
Despite my introduction, this is meant to be used as a regular moisturizer, it is not a dedicated after sun product. Depending on your skin type, the climate you live in and yor preferences it would work just as well in the mornings before sunscreen as it would at night as last step in your routine.
What is interesting is the cooling effect: It isn’t there immediately after application, but slowly develops after you have spread it. If you have used menthol products for cooling, you might remember them as feeling quite cold – I once had one for the legs that would make me positively shiver. The Purito Breeze Water Gel Cream is much more subtle, cooling the skin down just a little, like a soft breeze on damp skin. Probably why they named it the way it was named.
The soft cooling effect stays for around 30 minutes. Directly after application there is a noticeable tackiness that stays for the first ten minutes, and the skin is left feeling soft and hydrated over the course of the day.

The website states that the Breeze Water Gel Cream is formulated with Eucoolan, which is the extract of Eucommia Ulmoides Bark. I hadn’t heard about that one before, but according to the manufacturer it is the extract of a tree native to China that has long been used in traditional herbal medicine to help prevent thermal aging of the skin. It is often listed as antioxidants in skincare, but seems to be responsible for the soft cooling.
In addition there are different humectants like Glycerin, Xylitol and Propanediol, Squalane as emollient and Allantoin and Panthenol to soothe the skin. (More info: The benefits of Panthenol in skincare explained)
It also contains different plant extracts, out of which Chamomile and Aloe Vera are among the better known.

Does it live up to its claims?
Yes.
It is cooling and hydrating and contains soothing ingredients.
How does it compare to…

Alpha-H High Tide Water Cream
While the Alpha-H cream looks similar in texture, it feels entirely different on the skin. Both are hydrating, but Alpha-H has a non-suffocating richness that makes it much better suited for normal to dry skin types and that goes to show that you can’t really judge the effect of a product by its texture alone. It also has a much more pleasant scent.

Dr. G R.E.D. Blemish Clear Soothing Cream
The Dr. G brand belongs to the K-Beauty category just like Purito does, but is (at least to my knowledge) not as well known. Which is a shame as this moisturizer is beautiful both in its lightweight texture and hydrating abilities as well as in the blend of soothing and skin brightening ingredients it contains. Now I can’t tell why it features „blemish clear“ in the name as there aren’t any components that are commonly associated with fighting breakouts, but I like it a lot for lightweight hydration and soothing.

Would I repurchase and which skin types do I recommend the Purito Breeze Water Gel Cream to?
While I liked the cooling effect and it wasn’t particularly heavy, I didn’t enjoy it much in the mornings due to the tackiness and intense hydration, and even though the effect on the skin was more than welcome after a day at the beach, the plasticky scent was a huge turn-off for me. If you get along better with the scent, you might find it.a nice product to try though.
