Gel in the name, but cream in the feel—and some surprising benefits in between. Let’s talk about The Derma Co C-Cinamide Radiance Sunscreen Aqua Gel. Which filters does it use, what does the C-Cinamide stand for and why haven’t you heard of it before?

Spoiler: It’s more accessible than you think—if you have the right friends.
What The derma CO C-Cinamide Radiance Sunscreen Aqua Gel claims
Good skin comes to those who wear sunscreen daily, and glowing skin comes to those who wear our C-Cinamide Radiance Sunscreen Aqua Gel with the power of 2 actives – Vitamin C & Niacinamide.
Facts about The derma CO C-Cinamide Radiance Sunscreen Aqua Gel
Prize and size
One pump bottle contains 50 g and is available for 499 Rupees in stores in India, which equals 5,49 €. There is no online retailer shipping internationally outside a few probably dubious sites I can’t comment on, so your only option is to buy it in India or have it brough home by a friend (which is how I got it).
Texture and smell
I admit I have a very specific image in mind when I hear „gel“, and the Derma CO Aqua Gel doesn’t quite match that. To me it looks (and feels) more like a white cream. There is no noticeable scent.

How to use The derma CO C-Cinamide Radiance Sunscreen Aqua Gel
Sunscreen goes on as last step in your routine, either after serum or after moisturizer, depending on your skin type and the climate you are in. For me that definitely was one I used without a moisturizer underneath, as it feels richer than what I usually go for in the mornings.
Despite this initial richness there is barely any tackiness and wears comfortably all day. I could take it up right to my eyes without stinging and had no issues with white cast – and neither had my Indian friend for whom it is much more an issue than for pale me.
The finish is natural, so not overly dewy, something I appreciate, and the level of hydration was comfortable with the exception of very hot and balmy days.
Ingredients of The derma CO C-Cinamide Radiance Sunscreen Aqua Gel

Hover the mouse over an ingredient for short explanation. Read more on INCIDecoder.
It is a sunscreen using purely organic filters, Octinoxate, Avobenzone and Oxybenzone, all three good, but old filters. The protection rating they are able to reach with that is, according to their testing certificate published on their website, SPF 52 and UVAPF 27, which qualifies this sunscreen as broad spectrum and as high UVA protection, although there are sunscreens like the La Roche Posay UVMune that have almost double. (More info: What is UVA protection and why is it important?)
As additional skin beneficial ingredients you have Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, a Vitamin C derivative, Niacinamide and Phospholipids. (More info: The benefits of Vitamin C in skincare explained and The benefits of Niacinamide in skincare explained) There are also some plant extracts, probably added for potential antioxidant benefits.

Does it live up to its claims?
Yes.
Of course „wearing sunscreen daily“ isn’t the only thing you’ll need to get good skin, other factors like genetics play a huge role too, but it is a very important step. And Vitamin C (derivatives) and Niacinamide are helpful for glowing skin, no debating that.
How does it compare to…

Dr Sheth’s Haldi & Hyaluronic Acid Sunscreen SPF 50 PA+++
The other Indian sunscreen my friend gave me, but while that one is called sunscreen, it feels much more like a gel to me when applied. Unlike the DermaCo one it is a hybrid sunscreen, using organic and inorganic filters, but still without giving the skin a noticeable white cast. It is the one with the more dewy finish, so out of the two I would probably recommend Sr. Sheth’s for normal to dry skin and the Derma CO one for normal to slightly oily. That depends on your personal preference as well as the climate though, so see how it feels on your skin.

Would I repurchase and which skin types do I recommend The derma CO C-Cinamide Radiance Sunscreen Aqua Gel to?
For obvious reasons I can’t repurchase (limited access to Indian pharmacies), but even if I could, it probably wouldn’t be my first choice. I prefer formulas that use more modern filters with more UVA protection, but overall I think it will work well as everyday sunscreen andon a wide variety of skin types. Especially for those that don’t want much added extra glow.
