When you look at the “Bestseller” page on the Timeless skincare website, the Timeless Matrixyl Synthe´6 Serum features prominently. What doesn’t feature is the Timeless Matrixyl 3000 HA Serum, and that made me curious. Why is the Synthe´6 one so much more popular?
Is it because it is directly aimed at more mature skin, a group more interested in peptides than others? Or is it because it is so much better than the rest? Well, as someone with mature skin and the Matrixyl 3000 serum to compare, I was determined to find out!
What the Timeless Matrixyl Synthe´6 Serum claims
The Restorer – Help turn back time on the visible signs of aging with Matrixyl®️ Synthe’6®️. With six critical skin-building essentials, this powerful polypeptide targets pronounced wrinkles and expression lines by stimulating collagen production. Along with the ultra-hydrating properties of Hyaluronic Acid, it helps tired, damaged skin, and treats pronounced wrinkles and sun damaged skin. Lifts and plumps to reveal firmer, younger-looking skin. Beneficial for skin on the neck and décolleté.
Facts about the Timeless Matrixyl Synthe´6 Serum
Prize and size
One dropper bottle contains 30 ml and is available for 27,95 $ on the website here. There is also a larger size containing 120 ml that is available for 68,95 $, providing better value for money. The serum is vegan.
Texture and smell
Straight out of the bottle the product looks and feels like water, just with a little more body. It is quite runny and easy to spread. I didn’t notice any scent.
How to use the Timeless Matrixyl Synthe´6 Serum
Peptides can be used morning or night and pair well with everything else. Some brands will tell you to not use them in the same routine as acids because they work best in an alcaline environment, but I don’t think applying skincare to your naturally acidic skin will change its pH much, especially not if you wait a few minutes between application steps. Add them wherever you like, which for me is usually in the mornings for serums that focus on adding hydration – that way I can enjoy the temporary plumping effect most.
This one works well under makeup and didn’t cause pilling or leave my skin tacky, no matter what I paired it with.
Ingredients of the Timeless Matrixyl Synthe´6 Serum
Hover the mouse over an ingredient for short explanation. Read more on INCIDecoder.
The main player is the Synthe´6 complex, featuring Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38, a peptide claiming to boost the production of six important building blocks in the skin: Collagen Type I, III and IV, Fibronectin, Hyaluronic Acid and Laminin 5. This boost in structural proteins will, according to the manufacturer, lead to less visible wrinkles especially on forehead and crows feet as well as generally firmer and more even skin. The peptide comes encapsulated, the Cyclodextrin that is part of the complex will tell you that. (More info: The benefits of peptides in skincare explained)
In addition to the complex you will find Glycerin and Hyaluronic Acid as humectants and Aloe for soothing. (More info: The benefits of Hyaluronic Acid in skincare explained)

Does it live up to its claims?
Well.
I think that depends on how strictly you interpret them. Yes, if you believe that the peptide complex does what the manufacturer claims, it will help keep your skin looking more firm and youthful. But if you expect the „treat“ claim to really reverse deep set lines that are already there, you will certainly be disappointed. No skincare item will be able to do that.
How does it compare to…
Geek and Gorgeous Power Peptides
Geek and Gorgeous offer a blend of different peptides, including the Matrixyl 3000 Complex and Matrixyl Synthe´6. It has a more milky texture and is more tacky, but more affordable and a two in one.

The Ordinary Buffet Serum
Another budget option combining both the Matrixyl 3000 Complex as well as Matrixyl Synthe´6. Again Timeless has the slightly nicer texture, but not only the price, but the combination of peptides offered would make me prefer the version from The Ordinary.

Timeless Matrixyl 3000 HA Serum
Now why is the Timeless Synthe´6 a bestseller and the Timeless Matrixyl 3000 one not? Quite frankly, I have no idea. I think both are identical in texture and how they feel on the skin and I wouldn’t say they offer noticeably different results either. It might depend what you are looking for more, collagen preservation or all over improvement of your skins structure, but seeing that there are options that offer both combined, I don’t really think you have to chose.

Would I repurchase and which skin types do I recommend the Timeless Matrixyl Synthe´6 HA Serum to?
I think the Timeless Matrixyl Synteh´6 Serum has a beautiful texture and an immediate plumping effect on my skin, most likely due to the added humectants. I did however not see my pronounced wrinkles disappear or visibly reduce, something the manufacturer of the new peptide complex Matrixyl Synthe´6 reports from his testings. As not even Tretinoin, which has a lot more data on its collagen stimulating effects, is able to do that, I wasn’t too surprised though. That doesn’t mean that there will be no effect, but even if six important skin building blocks will be stimulated, the effects will be gradual and subtle. I would still recommend the serum for those with more mature skin that have the money to spend, have a good skincare routine already and are willing to take a risk on peptides rather than for younger skin types.
