In a world full of skincare actives that exfoliate, stimulate and do whatever else we want them to do, one thing often gets overlooked: The power of hydration and soothing for skin that looks (and feels!) its best. The Vegreen Fragrance-Free Cica Serum is one of the products that focuses only on this, not uncommon in Korean skincare brands and essential for achieving glowing skin.

As someone that uses Tretinoin for their adult acne, I am always looking for something to keep my skin calm. I don’t want to be red and flaky instead of covered in inflamed breakouts, I want my skin to be blemish-free AND calm. And that isn’t always easy.
So did the Vegreen Serum help?
What the Vegreen Cica Serum claims
This serum contains centella asiatica extract to soothe and moisturize sensitive skin.
Facts about the Vegreen Cica Serum
Prize and size
One bottle contains 50 ml and is available for 19,50 $ on the website here. The bottle has been rebranded since I took the pictures, featuring a more graphic, modern design, so don’t be confused – it is still the same inside. The product is vegan.
Texture and smell
Both in the old and in the new packaging the serum looks blue, but that must be enhanced by the bottle, as once pumped out it looks almost clear. While it doesn’t have much body to it, it still isn’t as runny as other serums I have tried. I have seen it described as gel texture and that is quite fitting. It isn’t a gel, but there is a gelish component to the liquid.
There is no noticeable scent.

How to use the Vegreen Cica Serum
As the main purpose of the serum is to hydrate and sooth the skin, it can be used whenever you want in your routine, morning or night. One pump is enough to cover your face, if you, as I would recommend, take it down your neck and décolleté as well, two pumps are what you need. I personally preferred using it at night as I found it to be a little tacky at times, something that can lead to issues with pilling when you apply your products in a rush (as I do every morning). The tackiness subsides after a few minutes, so at night with a little more time at hand that wasn’t much of an issue.
It can be paired with everything else in your routine.
Ingredients of the Vegreen Cica Serum

Hover the mouse over an ingredient for short explanation. Read more on INCIDecoder.
It won’t come as a surprise here that Centella Asiatica Extract is present, both as actual extract as well as in Madecassoside, Asiaticoside, Madecassic Acid and Asiatic Acid, which are the “active components” in Centella Asiatica. (More info: The benefits of Centella Asiatica in skincare explained)
Then there is Allantoin and Panthenol for additional soothing and lastly Sodium Hyaluronate and Glycerin as humectants. (More info: The benefits of Panthenol in skincare explained and The benefits of Hyaluronic Acid in skincare explained)

Does it live up to its claims?
Yes.
They are quite basic anyway, claiming to moisturise and soothe the skin due to the added Centella Asiatica Extract and it is hard to argue with that.
How does it compare to

Geek and Gorgeous 101 Stress Less Serum
I have been asked how it compares to the Geek & Gorgeous Stress Less Serum that also contains Madecassoside and in addition Beta-Glucan for soothing. In terms of texture I would probably go for the Geek and Gorgeous one as I find it to be less sticky. Vegreen has more of the individual active components of Centella Asiatica, but that doesn’t automatically mean it has more effect. Vegreen has Panthenol, Geek and Gorgeous has Beta-Glucan, so if you have a preference, that might influence your decision.

Purito Centella Unscented Serum
Similar in name and in the fact that they contain Centella and Panthenol for soothing, Puritos offer differs in the additional ingredients present. It contains Niacinamide, Ceramides as well as peptides that make it interesting for more mature skin. The texture is quite similar, also with a hint of tackiness, so I would suggest going with the one that is easier available to you or opt for Purito if you want a little more oomph.

The Ordinary Soothing and Barrier Support Serum
This is an interesting comparison, as The Ordinarys Serum is bright pink and thicker in texture, but has the same slight tackiness as Vegreen has. It feels richer though and has more of a noticeable smell – not due to added fragrance, it is fragrance-free, but due to the individual components added. I am not fond of the scent, but don’t find it bothersome either. The Ordinary seems to combine a lot of the ingredients mentioned in the other three serums here into one, with added Green Tea Extract and a few more things claiming to reduce itching and burning of the skin. While it is certainly fun to use and I am on my second bottle as it really helps my skin stay calm in winter, I am not the biggest fan of the texture and the way it applies.

Would I repurchase and which skin types do I recommend it to?
While I always have a soothing and hydrating serum in my stash for winter, I wouldn’t go out of my way to repurchase this exact one, but if I have it, I happily use it. It will work for all skin types and should fit all routines.
