I know I start most reviews with a little story, but things will be different this time. I just had too much to say about the product itself and didn´t want to waste your precious time.

So, the product. The Wishtrend Green Tea & Enzyme Powder Wash *.

I have to admit I had a hard time with this product.

 

 

It starts with the mixing. The cleanser is a powder cleanser you need to freshly prepare by adding water. Or adding it to water. Your call.

 

After numerous attempts (and product wasted), I think I have found a way that works for me: I pour water into a small pot and then add powder. This seems to be the best way to actually control the viscosity and amount of cleanser I will get, as adding water to the powder inevitably lead to a “Just a drop more… one more… Ups!”-situation in my clumsy hands.

 

Now, with the mixing down, I could finally focus on the effects the Wishtrend Green Tea & Enzyme Powder Wash * had on my skin.

And this is where my second concern comes in: The main ingredient is baking soda or sodium bicarbonate. Now I know that baking soda is praised high and low in natural and DIY exfoliants, but added to water it is alkaline. And our skin is acidic, for good reason, as this acid mantle protects against dehydration and bacteria. Now the product claims to have a pH of 5.5, which is acidic, but I can by no means see how that is supposed to be achieved with these ingredients?

But how did it fare? Let´s see.

 

What wishtrend claims

Green Tea & Enzyme Powder Wash with a delightful green tea latte scent, with a hydrating finish.
Consisting baking powder, coconut-derived surfactant, and enzymes, it controls blackheads while hydrating without tugging and pulling the skin.

 

Facts

Prize and size

One bottle contains 70 g and retails for 22 $ on the website here. The flip lid is easy to handle even with wet hands.

 

Texture and smell

Despite the description, this cleanser doesn´t heavily foam up. It just bubbles a little and forms a paste of a thickness you can control by the amount of water you add to the mixture. The scent is fresh, I can smell green tea, but am not sure about the matcha latte aspect.

 

Application and effects

I went into great detail with my difficulties in the introduction, so I won´t repeat myself here.

Sadly I wasn´t the biggest fan of the effects either. Yes, my skin feels smooth and polished, but at the same time a little tight and irritated. Using it more than once or maybe twice a week was too much even for my oily and robust skin.

• Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate: Surfactant, serves the same purpose as Sulphates, but is said to be less drying. Lathers
• Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate: Gentle surfactant
• Zea Mais (Corn) Starch: Oil absorbing, thickening
• Camelia Sinensis Leaf powder (2%): green tea extract, antioxidant, antiinflammatory
• Lysine HCL: Essential amino acid needed to build collagen
• Proline: Non-essential amino acid needed to build collagen
• Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate: Precursor of Vitamin C, more stable, less irritant, brightening. antioxydant
• Acetyl Methionine: Oil control
• Theanine: Amino acid found in green tea, nourishing
• Papaya Fruit Extract: Rich in Vitamin C, nourishing
• Sorbitol: Humectant
• Papain: Enzymatic exfoliant
• Betaine: Humectant, gives smooth feeling to skin and hair
• Citric Acid: AHA, used as preservative most likely (very low on ingredient list)
• Sodium Hyaluronate: Hydrating, smaller form of hyaluronic acid with deeper penetration

• Cellulose Gum: Thickening
• Citric Acid: AHA, used as preservative most likely

Unfavorable Ingredients

• Sodium Bicarbonate: Baking Soda, used as exfoliant in skin care. Alkaline, potentially disrupting the acid mantle of the skin.

 

 

 

 

Does it live up to its claims?

Some of them.

It does contain all the ingredients mentioned, smells like green tea and might even help with blackheads. But it is not hydrating for sure!

 

Would I repurchase?

No.

The effect, the handling, everything was just not convincing for me.

 

Who do I recommend it to?

If you are a believer in the good of sodium bicarbonate and don´t want to mix yourself, this might be for you.

But I honestly wouldn´t really recommend it for anyone.
