Given that I am a full time working mother of two, my mornings are usually pretty relaxed. And I am well aware that a morning skincare routine like mine (read here if you are curious), though already streamlined, is not possible for someone with little to no help.

In case you didn´t know, we live in a shared house with my parents, as one big family, and as my parents take the kids to daycare after breakfast, I can get ready and rush out the door at 6:45 without the need to do the whole dress, feed, dress again and then drop off.

How lucky I am strikes me, when my parents are on holiday. Because despite getting to work one hour later than usual, I barely find the time to brush my teeth, let alone do a five step morning routine.

Now I can´t skip makeup entirely and I already do breakfast al desco, so cutting down my skincare is the only way to go. Which is when multitasking products come in very handy.

What Doctor Duve claims

Purifying & Vitalizing With AHA Acids

Innovative Power cleansing with anti-aging effect! The basis for a radiant, beautiful, rosy fresh and clean skin is thorough daily cleansing. It should be as gentle and effective as possible. The oil free cleanser clears sensitive skin with a tendency for blemishes, with fruit and AHA acids, gives the skin new tonicity, reduces fine lines and wrinkles and minimizes pigmentation and age spots. Moisture retaining glycerine stabilizes and regenerates the barrier function of the skin, allantoin relieves skin irritations and has a regenerative effect on cells. The anti-inflammatory pro-vitamin B5 and panthenol improve the elasticity of the skin, and promote new cell formation.

Texture and smell

This is a gel. It feels like a gel, looks like a gel and applies like a gel. There is a slightly fresh and soapy scent, but very faint.

Application and effects

Application is easy, you massage it on, wet your hands and massage a little more. The added SLS makes it foam up and then you rinse it with water. Please do NOT use it around your eyes, this is a facial cleanse, not a makeup remover!

It is a really effective cleanse. One of the squeaky clean cleanses that will make drier faces tight and uncomfortable. My combination/oily skin can´t handle it more than three times a week, but after every usage my face is smooth and exfoliated.

Favorable ingredients
  • Panthenol: Vit. B 5, humectant, penetrates into deep layers of skin, moisturizing, anti-inflammatory
  • Glycolic Acid: AHA, exfoliates dead skin cells, slightly improves collagen production
  • Butylene Glycol: Humectant, helps skin lock in moisture
  • Lauryl Glucoside: Gentle cleanser
  • Allantoin: Soothing irritated skin
  • Glycerin: Humectant, draws moisture to the skin
  • Rubus Idaeus Leaf Cell Culture: antioxidant, contains peptides increasing hydration
Other ingredients
  • Sodium Laureth Sulphate: Surfactant, very effective in cleansing, but also very stripping
  • Sodium Chloride: Table Salt, thickening
  • Sodium Hydroxide: pH adjuster, can be irritating
  • Phenoxyethanol: Preservative
  • Cocamidopropyl Betaine: Surfactant, lathering
  • Benzoic Acid: Preservative
  • Polyquaternium-7: Film former
Unfavorable Ingredients
  • Sodium Benzoate: Preservative, should not be mixed with Vitamin C as it could form benzene, a carcinogen. Highly unlikely in the amounts used in skincare, but some people may prefer to avoid it
  • Parfum (fragrance)
  • Ethylhexylglycerin: Preservative

To be honest, I am not blown away by this ingredient list. Due to the SLS and the Glycolic Acid combined in one product, it is too stripping for my skin for daily use, and sadly the added soothing ingredients and humectants aren´t able to counteract that. The hydrating peptides are the only thing setting this one apart from similar products like the pixi Glow Mud Cleanser* (Review here), and that one is much gentler.

Does it live up to its claims?

Hm.

It is “power cleansing” for sure and contains all the ingredients mentioned, but “gentle” and “for sensitive skin” aren´t claims I agree with.

Would I repurchase?

No.

I do enjoy using it for these really busy mornings when I want a quick glycolic fix, but don´t want to bother with a separate toner, but once I am done I will go back to other ones.

Who do I recommend it to?

People pressed for time and people with very oily and robust skin. I can´t help but think that Mr. Loca would love it, if he wouldn´t insist that shower gel was good enough a cleanse for him…
