Fairy Tales for the grown up – Sachajuan Leave-in Conditioner

Have you been reading Fairy Tales as a child?
The “real” ones by “Gebrüder Grimm” or “Hans-Christian Andersson”, not the watered down Disney versions?

I have, and I loved them.
Granted, they are full of violence, questionable behavior and scary creatures, but somehow they paint a picture about how life truly is.
And that you shouldn’t believe every word you read.

Doesn’t hurt to remind myself that the same goes for product claims.

My hair has been highlighted way to much during the last 16 years of my life.
Being a natural blonde, I tried to keep the sun-kissed, beachy look achieved through summer holidays spend at french beaches all year round, in the end using as much as three different shades of blond (read bleach) for a natural looking effect.

Sachajuan Leave In Conditioner

The color was on point, but my hairs condition wasn’t.
From my ears down, it was dry, frizzy and impossible to style, and when the post-pregnancy hair-loss kicked in, I turned to the World Wide Web for help.

Cult Beauty, known and trusted deliverer of skincare greatness, recommended the Sachajuan Leave in Conditioner with the following words:
“A genius oil-free leave-in conditioner that turns straw into gold.”
Rumpelstiltskin anyone?

What Sachajuan claims:
A genius oil-free leave in conditioner that turns straw into gold. This incredibly light conditioner uses the “best in class” grouping of marine algae & mineral extracts to moisturize, soften and strengthen your hair throughout the day. Designed for thinner hair types (…) Bottle lasts at least 4 months.

Distributing a fine mist

Facts:
One bottle contains 250 ml and retails at Cult Beauty for around 30 €.
It comes in a spray bottle delivering a fine mist and has a sweet, powdery smell that lingers in your hair for the rest of the day.

Favorable ingredients:
– Hydrolyzed Rhodophycea Extract: From an algae, protecting and smoothing

Unfavorable Ingredients:
– Silicones in various forms
– Parabens

Silicones and Parabens are controversial. I put them to the unfavorable list because some people are sensitive to parabens or try to avoid silicones all together.
And while I use both without hesitation, they are not beneficial for your hair´s structure. The silicones will just make it appear healthier.

Does it live up to its claims?
For the most part, no.
It is light weight and suitable for fine hair, but it has almost no nourishing potential, thus not turning “straw to gold”.
After using it, my hair feels soft and is easy to comb through for the first 24 hours, but after hat it is back to it´s frizzy normal. There is also no long-term benefit after using it for two months straight.
But I agree that the bottle will at least last for four months. After two months of exclusive use, I am only a third down.

Will I rebuy?
No.
In my opinion it is way to pricey for way to little “good” ingredients.

Who do I recommend it to?
If you have very fine hair that is easily weight down and just in need of a little care, this one might be for you.
Everyone looking for more nourishment, look elsewhere.

As far as my hair goes, I went for the most final and fool-prove way of getting rid of the frizz:
I chopped it off at about shoulders length.
