Ole Henriksen Pure Truth Youth Activating Oil – You can never know it all

If you have been around for a little while now, you may have read my blogpost on “Pregnancy skincare” (if not, here is the link) and remember that I claimed I´d not be introducing Vitamin A in my skincare until I finished breastfeeding and that I had never used it before.

Turns out I was wrong.

Because all my ingredient research aside, I had never considered that Rosehip Oil contains 0,4% retinoid acid, which is pretty much the stuff that retinyl palmitate is transferred into once it is applied to the skin.

Surprisingly enough, applying retinoid acid from rosehip oil is considered safe throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding, while retinyl palmitate isn’t. I guess that is because of most of the research these recommendations base on are focussing on orally taken Vitamin A in prescription strength.

But whatever the reason, I was pretty relieved when I learned it was, because I had been using my rosehip oil all throughout pregnancy. So relieved I even added a new product into my routine.

Ole Henriksen Pure Truth Youth Activation Oil, to be exact.

What Ole Henriksen claims:

Powerful 100% concentrated rose hips oil activates skin’s natural reparative ability with potent antioxidants and essential fatty acids to reveal skin’s youthful state – bright, resilient and radiant. Unfiltered, unprocessed and cold pressed to maintain the highest potency, rose hips oil is a single source of active vitamin A, vitamin C and high levels of essential fatty acids. Luxurious and lightweight, this citrus scented and potent anti-aging treatment quickly absorbs and deeply penetrates to heal, nourish, and hydrate. Fine lines are visibly reduced and skin is immediately brighter and more radiant. Abundant with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, skin is defended from future damage and balanced.

Facts:

Packaging and price:

The plastic bottle contains 30 ml and is available for 45 $ online here or 63 € here. With application around three times a week for six months now, my 15 ml sample size still contains more than two thirds of the original content.

Texture and scent:

Bright orange in color, the oil itself feels very liquid and is easily absorbed without leaving a greasy residue on the skin. Just like claimed, the smell is citrusy, and even though it isn’t very strong, I somehow found it less pleasing than in other Ole Henriksen products.

Application and results:

Designed for application AM and PM, both works perfectly fine, but I preferred it in the evenings as my last skincare step. If your skin is drier than mine, application in the morning before your makeup should totally work.

Along with the other products I used it really helped my skin looking radiant and hydrated.

Favorable ingredients:

  • Rose Hip Seed Oil: Vitamin C and A, antioxidant, promoting collagen production, brightening
  • Tangerine Peel Oil: Clarifying, oil controlling
  • Lemongrass Oil: anti-inflammatory, oil-controlling
  • Tocopherol: Vitamin E, antioxidant

Unfavorable Ingredients:

None. If your skin is very sensitive though, the tangerine peel oil can be a little too much.

Does it live up to its claims?

Yes.

As far as I am able to tell, I cant vouch for the cold-pressed part or the long-term protection claim. But is sure has the ingredients to back up the claim.

Will I rebuy?

Yes.

It has been a tight competition between my Antipodes Divine Facial Oil (read here) and this one, but in the end this one wins ever so slightly. Despite the smell.

Who do I recommend it to?

Anyone with aging, acne-prone skin.

Anyone with hyper pigmentation they want to tackle.

If your skin is very sensitive or very dry though, there might be better alternatives for you around.

What was the last surprise in skincare you had?

And would you use it while pregnant?
