I have seen skincare claim to sooth or calm irritated skin, but never of a product to sedate the skin. The SKIN1004 Probio-Cica Intensive Ampoule though does exactly this. Now you may know I have worked as anaesthesiologist for many years, so sedation was basicaly my bread and butter, but of course using entirely different products.

Now the choice of wording might be a result of translation, but still I was intrigued to learn more about the product – let’s take a closer look!

What the SKIN1004 Probio-Cica Intensive Ampoule claims

The highly concentrated ampoule, which has the nutritional and efficacy of fermented centella, takes care of the skin healthily with quick sedation on the irritated skin. Soothes blemishes and reduces excess oil production, diminishes the appearance of dark spots and hyperpigmentation, provides deep hydration, and strengthens the skin barrier.

Facts about the SKIN1004 Probio-Cica Intensive Ampoule

Prize and size

The bottle comes with a dropper and is available in either 50 ml size, which is available for 14,30 $ on the website here, or in 95 ml size for 19,50 $ – obviously the better value for money.

Texture and smell

To be upfront, I don’t really like how this one works with the dropper. It is milky white and less runny than I expected, it almost feels like a light lotion to me and I sometimes needed to go back in a few times to get enough into the dropper. I did not notice any scent.

I found it a bit too thick to work great with a dropper

How to use the SKIN1004 Probio-Cica Intensive Ampoule

The website tells you to use it after cleansing, but for me personally it went on last before my moisturizer and after any other more liquid texture like toner or serum. In fact in summer this could probably double up as light moisturizer for my combination-oily skin. (More info: Does everyone need a moisturizer?)

Both morning or night will work well, depending on where it fits your routine best, and while I found it to be a little tacky after application, I never experienced any issues with pilling.

Looking at the ingredient list, we have Centella Asiatica extract as well as the Lactobacillus/ Centella Asiatica Extract Ferment Filtrate which gives the Probio-Cica line its name and the active components of Centella Asiatica, Madecassic Acid, Asiaticoside and Asiatic Acid added separately. (More info: The benefits of Centella Asiatica in skincare explained and The benefits of fermented ingredients in skincare explained)

For hydration you will find Glycerin and Hyaluronic Acid. (More info: The benefits of Hyaluronic Acid in skincare explained)

Worth mentioning are the many soothing ingredients you will find here: Of course Centella, but also Panthenol, Niacinamide, Ceramide NP, Betaine and Adenosine for wound healing. Does it live up to its claims?

Yes. If we assume that sedate is used as sooth would be, not in the medical term.

It combines several different ingredients all aiming to brighten and sooth the skin and support the skin barrier and it keeps the skin well hydrated.

Would I repurchase and which skin types do I recommend the SKIN1004 Probio-Cica Intensive Ampoule to?

I enjoy the SKIN1004 Probio-Cica Ampoule more than I thought I would – I admit, an ampoule doesn’t usually feature in my routine. The texture that is almost like a light lotion paired with the combination of soothing ingredients makes it a great choice for me in summer though, used instead of a moisturizer after a day at the beach for example. Depending on your skin type it should work either as ampoule as intended or instead of a heavier cream when you are more on the oily side.
